Plans for Multi-Million Pound Investment in Skegness Approved

Multi-million-pound plans for Skegness which have been shaped by extensive community feedback have been approved by East Lindsey District Council.

Setting out an exciting ten-year ambition for the town as well as investment priorities for the next four years, the plans reflect local people’s aspirations for Skegness which have emerged from consultation taking place since 2024.

The plans have been developed to realise the significant opportunity for Skegness offered through the government’s Pride in Place programme which will see up  to £20M funding invested in the town over the next decade, with the first tranche of funding beginning from April 2026.

Outlined in the plans are investment priorities of: Safe and Well Skegness; Skilled and Working Skegness; Connected Skegness; Leisure and Culture Skegness, and Natural Skegness. Together the priorities will achieve a vision for Skegness as ‘a place that works for its residents all year round’.

The priorities will form the blueprint for delivery of the funding and directly respond to consultation which found that local people want improvements focused on themes such as safer, cleaner streets, more things to do all year round, and better job and training opportunities. Over 1,200 consultation responses from different sources as well as many conversations revealed what matters to local people. More information can be found here.

Now, following approval by East Lindsey District Council’s Executive Board on 25th November, the plans will be submitted to government.

The plans and the funding are being overseen in the town by Skegness Neighbourhood Board which brings together members from the public and private sectors, all with a shared commitment of working together for Skegness.

Paul McCooey, Chair of Skegness Neighbourhood Board said: “The approval of these plans is a key milestone for our Pride in Place programme and it brings us one step closer to delivering improvements that local people want to see.

“We have placed the community at the very heart of developing our vision and priorities for Skegness, and in the surveys, events, and many conversations that have taken place over the last 18 months we’ve been able to get a really clear understanding of how this funding can make the most impact in our town.

“Of course, we’re not beginning from a standing start, rather we are building on a solid foundation of investment, including through the Towns Fund, that is already making a difference for Skegness such as through the brand new Skegness College.

“Pride in Place offers us the chance to deliver even more for Skegness, and throughout the programme, we will be working closely with the community so that together, we can bring significant improvements for the town.

“There will be many more opportunities for local people to get involved and shape the town’s future, please do look out for events and activities on our social media channels and our website shapingskegnesstogether.co.uk.”

Councillor Craig Leyland, Leader, East Lindsey District Council said: “The plans that have been developed for Skegness offer a focused framework for improvements in the town over the plan period.

“What is really crucial about both the vision and the plan is that they reflect the themes of the feedback that have been shared by local people over the last year.

“The Pride in Place funding offers a fantastic opportunity for further investment in Skegness, building on what has already been achieved, and the programme will be delivered through continued collaboration with the community.

“I look forward to seeing the progress of the plans and the impact they will have in Skegness.”

A response from government to the plans is expected in early 2026 with the first tranche of funding to be released in April 2026.  In the meantime, work is taking place to develop the projects in the first phase of investment.

Consultation and engagement will continue to be a hallmark of the Board’s work in Skegness with many more opportunities for involvement in the coming months and years.
