Skegness Groups Invited to Submit Project Ideas for Funding

Community groups in Skegness are being offered the chance to put forward ideas for projects that could potentially benefit from government funding coming into the town.

Skegness Neighbourhood Board – which oversees the Plan for Neighbourhoods funding in Skegness – is inviting local groups, charities, and organisations to submit expressions of interests as plans for the funding are currently being drawn up.

Applicants will need to share a brief summary of their project or idea and show how it not only fits with the aims of the Plan for Neighbourhoods but also how it meets community needs, identified in consultation this summer.

All expressions of interest will be assessed by the Board against a clear set of criteria and work will subsequently take place to further develop projects selected through the process.

Applicants can fill in an online form – or download a form – here: Call for Projects – Shaping Skegness Together Or pick up and return a printed copy from Tower Gardens Pavilion, or email hello@shapingskegnesstogether.co.uk for a copy of the form to be emailed or posted directly.

There is also support available to help groups with the application process, contact hello@shapingskegnesstogether.co.uk for assistance.

The Board will also be contacting community groups, organisations, and charities across the town to invite them to take part in the open call.

Paul McCooey, Chair, Skegness Neighbourhood Board said: “We want to ensure that local people are at the heart of shaping the plans for how this funding is invested in Skegness.

“The Board has been carrying out concerted consultation this summer, and now building on this, we want to hear project ideas from groups that are operating on the ground and understand the community’s needs.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to put forward expressions of interest for consideration with the possibility of receiving funding and support that can transform ideas into reality.”

The open call comes after consultation in July and August saw around 700 responses captured in online surveys, leaflets, postcards, and feedback boards.  Almost half of all respondents – 306 – were aged under 25.

The consultation, which followed on from earlier engagement in 2024, revealed that people in Skegness want:

  • Safer, cleaner streets;
  • A better town centre experience
  • More things to do all year round;
  • Better transport links;
  • Better amenities for families and young people;
  • Improvements to roads;
  • Better job and training opportunities.

Paul McCooey added: “From our consultation in 2024 and this summer, overall we’ve captured around 1,000 different pieces of feedback.

“We’ve heard clearly what matters to people in our town and we want to ensure that the plans for this funding reflect the community needs and aspirations.

“We’re going to continue involving people in the months and years to come, and the open call for projects is our latest opportunity for engagement. We look forward to receiving the applications.”

Skegness Neighbourhood Board is a group of people from different sectors and backgrounds who all share a commitment to making Skegness be the best place it can be. The Board was previously a sub-group of Connected Coast which oversees the Towns Fund in Skegness and Mablethorpe.
